Dr. John Krehlik Offers Sleep-Disturbed Alaskans CPAP Therapies

About John Krehlik

After earning his MD in 1975 from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, Dr. John Krehlik completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington. Board certified in sleep medicine, he has been practicing in Alaska since 1984 and maintains offices in Anchorage and Juneau. Dr. John Krehlik treats a broad range of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, snoring, and sleepiness.

A common treatment for sleep apnea, continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, generally requires people with the disorder to wear a special mask while they sleep. The mask is connected to a CPAP machine, which gently blows air into the mask and into the patient’s mouth and nose. This creates positive air pressure in the patient’s airway, preventing the airway collapse that characterizes sleep apnea. John Krehlik and his staff work closely with patients in the selection and calibration of CPAP masks and machines. In addition, the effectiveness of modern CPAP machines can be monitored remotely, reducing the need for frequent office visits.

While CPAP therapy works well for many people, Dr. John Krehlik recognizes that it is not effective for all people with sleep apnea. He thus offers alternatives to using a CPAP machine and mask to overcome sleep apnea.
